In the past, it took 12 days of work, and now it can be easily done in only half a day. This is mainly due to the recently developed portable container weighing device calibrator developed by the China Railway Sichuan Chengdu Bureau Group Co., Ltd. Metrology Institute.

Railway container transportation is an internationally accepted method of cargo transportation, accounting for more than 75% of the world's cargo transportation. When adopting the method of railway container transportation, the cargo owner only needs to load small pieces of goods into the container, and pull the car directly to the freight yard to load the train. After reaching the destination, the container is unloaded, which not only reduces the intermediate secondary loading and unloading operations, but also reduces the intermediate loading and unloading operations. The breakage rate of the goods also greatly increases the turnaround time of the goods and saves costs.
At the same time, accuracy is crucial in the process of container transportation. If the weighing device cannot accurately measure the overload of the container, it may cause a rollover accident. However, the weighing device itself has a large error, and the weighing method commonly used in railways is slightly awkward, which greatly affects the efficiency of the freight yard.
In order to solve the problem of accurate weighing of containers, the research and development team of China Railway Chengdu Branch Group Co., Ltd. has successfully developed a portable container weighing device calibrator in May this year after several months of efforts. The calibrator is used to measure the exact weight of a cargo container, and the data is compared with the weighing result of the door hanger with the weighing device to complete the calibration of the latter.
Compared to the weight-checking trucks used in the past, this calibrator is very mini-miniature. The main components are four laptop-sized pedestals, a high-accuracy weighing module, plus a control box and indicator.
In addition, the newly developed calibrator has greatly improved the loading and unloading efficiency of the container weighing and calibration section. It is understood that it takes one day to calibrate a door lift with the previous calibration method, and only 0.5 hours with the new calibrator. The group company has about 80 door cranes. Each door crane can load and unload about 200 containers per day. According to the calculation of each annual calibration, after using the calibrator, about 16,000 containers can be loaded and unloaded in one year.
The successful development of the calibrator has filled the gap in the field of accurate weighing of containers, which has promoted the standardization process of the industry to some extent. In July, the calibrator project was approved as the first batch of technology projects of the group company in 2018, which will further improve the calibrator function. In addition, seven patents are pending.

There is a huge range of different chemicals and liquid that that stored and processed under pressure. These range from relatively benign substances such as milk and palm oil to crude oil and natural gas and their distillates to highly lethal acids and chemicals such as methyl isocyanate. So of these processes need the gas or liquid to be very hot, whilst others contain it at very low temperatures. As a result there is a wide variety of different pressure vessel steel grades that meet the different use cases.

In general these can be divided into three groups. There is a group of carbon steel pressure vessel grades. These are standard steels and can cope with many applications where there is low corrosion and low heat. As heat and corrosion have more effect on the steel plates chromium, molybdenum and nickel are added to provide additional resistance.

The manufacture of pressure vessels is tightly regulated as a result of the risks involved and as a consequence the materials that can be used in vessels is also tightly specified. The most common specifications for pressure vessel steels are the EN10028 standards – which are European in origin – and the the ASME/ASTM standards which are from the US.

Our strength is in the very high specification pressure vessel steel plate used in the oil and gas industry and specifically in steel plate resistant to Hydrogen Induced Cracking (HIC).
