Most areas in the country have fully carried out pollution index testing in the four major areas

Recently, the Ministry of Environmental Protection issued the "2011 China Environmental Status Bulletin." The "Gazette" pointed out that as of the end of 2011, most areas in the country have fully conducted pollution index testing covering air, water, solid waste, and noise.

In the above four major areas, in addition to air pollution and water quality monitoring policies, solid waste pollution and noise monitoring have also become the focus of the overall pollution prevention and control capabilities. According to the "Gazette", a total of 266 cities have established solid waste pollution monitoring and information release systems, and 253 cities have conducted noise monitoring in functional areas.

The analysis pointed out that at present, China's environmental protection is mainly focused on inventory control. Incremental control is also an important content, and environmental monitoring is the main focus of prevention and control of incremental pollution. With the full expansion of environmental monitoring sites in the four major areas, the market demand for environmental monitoring instruments will be stimulated. According to forecast, it is expected that the growth rate of the environmental monitoring market in the next five years will be at least 30%. It is estimated that by 2015 China's environmental monitoring market will exceed 30 billion yuan.

The process of industrialization in our country has been open for decades. Existing inventory pollution has become the focus of environmental protection. According to data from the Ministry of Environmental Protection, as of the first half of 2011, the total amount of major pollutants (including chemical oxygen demand, ammonia nitrogen, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen oxides) was more than 37 million tons.

Preventing the growth of new sources of pollution is another major attraction for the country’s future environmental protection strategy.

In respect of the atmosphere, there are currently 1,436 PM2.5 monitoring sites in cities above prefecture level throughout the country; in addition, a total of 16 coal-fired power plants throughout the country have been selected to carry out mercury emission monitoring pilot work.

In terms of water quality monitoring, eight basins, including the Songhua River, have fully implemented a drinking water safety monitoring and early warning system. At the same time, it established an environment monitoring system for environmental monitoring instruments, 18 monitoring requirements for monitoring equipment, and an “access” system framework for modern monitoring of water environment.

In terms of solid waste, in 2011, a total of 266 cities in 31 provinces and cities across the country established a solid waste pollution monitoring and information release system.

With the prevention and control of heavy metal pollution being included in the field of environmental protection, Wu Lanze, the deputy director of the Environmental Planning Institute of the Ministry of Environmental Protection, previously pointed out that one of the key points of the “Twelfth Five-Year” heavy metal pollution environmental protection will be in more than 130 key prevention and control regions in the country. Establish a pollution source control system.

In addition, noise pollution has also been included in the key areas of environmental monitoring. In 2011, 253 cities across the country had already launched a full-scale pilot of noise monitoring in functional areas.
