In order to seize the opportunity of China to build up to 70 million new buildings in the next decade, Huali Instrument Group Co., Ltd. (Huali Instruments) has launched a new wireless automatic meter reading (AMR) system. The new AMR system is based on Ember's ZigBee technology, which eliminates the human and material resources of the person who reads the meter in the user's building and improves the quality of customer service.

The ZIRBee-based AMR system consists of an automated network, an automatically reconfigured mesh network that runs through adjacent residential buildings and connects the instrument to the utility's system, allowing the company to automatically copy the electricity, gas and water usage of the household. It can avoid errors and improve efficiency, and can also improve service quality. Although Huali Instrument currently provides AMR systems using GSM/GPRS/CDMA mobile networks for industrial and commercial applications, the technical and infrastructure equipment required for large residential projects is still quite expensive.

Tony Delgado, Director of Business Development at Ember Asia, said: "The number of commercial and residential towers built in Shanghai this year has been higher than the number of high-rise buildings in New York. The wireless network that conforms to the ZigBee standard is not only cost-effective, but also easy to use. It is a good medicine to meet the rapidly growing real estate market in mainland China."

As China's largest supplier of utility meters and AMR systems/solutions, Holley will launch a series of electric meters with Ember technology and develop gas and water meters in 2006. The AMR system will be first launched in China, and the company plans to export the system to 30 countries that currently have business contacts.

In accordance with an open international standard, the ZigBee Alliance is a monitoring and control mechanism consisting of enterprises to ensure high reliability, high performance and price ratio, low power consumption and wireless products. Ember is a key member of the ZigBee Alliance and its platform was selected by National Technical Systems (NTS) as the "golden suite" for 802.15.4/ZigBee product interoperability testing.
